We will be releasing more information in the next few days regarding revisions made to the Z1 CNC Throttle Bodies. I have been working on improving the quality of the Z1 Throttle Bodies as an entire product line and revising our in-house QC processing techniques for over a year now. I will be composing a separate, dedicated post discussing the improvements later next week. Please understand, there is about a 4~5 year difference in the design and engineering between the Z1 CNC Throttle Bodies and the Z1 Adjustable Exhaust Cam Gears. Spencer and I spent a GREAT deal of time over the course of the past two years working on the Z1 Exhaust Cam gear project, testing designs and examining current market offerings (Jun, Tomei, etc.). Together we determined what the strengths and weaknesses of all available options and laid out the fundamental goals we sought to achieve. When designing the Z1 Exhaust Cam gears, the following items were addressed and goals were set:- Price: We wanted to be able to roll out a quality product well under what the current market price was for the Tomei/Jun cam gears. - Weight: Goal was to be lighter than Jun/Tomei or be as close to stock weight as possible. Tomei Adjustable exhaust cam gears are heavier than stock. - Fitment: We wanted to ensure an OEM like fitment, reusing OEM mounting hardware and pulley offset. - Prevent Rust/Oxidation: Taking the used, OEM cores, we have them chemically cleaned and media blasted. The cores are then Zinc Plated for rust prevention. For those of you owning Tomei brand exhaust cam gears, you will notice that the outer ring can form oxidation over time. The stock exhaust cam gears will quickly rust and are often a nice shade or “rust” brown. - Finish options: We decided to offer both a Clear and Black Zinc Coating to the outer ring while offering a Silver and Black Anodized Inner Disc. This allows for the consumer to choose from 4 possible color combinations, depending on their preference. - Ease of usage: The TOMEI exhaust cam gears only have 1 adjustment gauge displayed on the Disc Face. We opted to display 5 adjustment gauges so to make on the vehicle adjustment easier. We were successful in achieving all of the above mentioned goals. We do listen to the complaints and feedback of the community and do act. We have sold numerous sets of these cam gears to customers around the world and have installed them on our own personal vehicles with 0, ZERO, defects or issues. My personal Z as well as Russell’s Convertible and other employees here at Z1 have these gears installed on their personal vehicle. The general practice is that if we design it and sell it, we install and run it on our personal vehicles.
